New Beginning

Well Hello 2013!  Hi my name is Kellie and I am the creator/artist/owner of Vava's Vintage.  So who or what is Vava's?  That is a great question.  Vava's is all about the upcycle movement!   So I have been finding thrift store and garage sale treasures for years.  Almost every piece of furniture in my house has been a thrift store, garage sale find or hand me down,  as my mother calls it "heir-loomed".  (I am not too sure something from the 80's qualifies as an "heirloom" but whatever).  Anyway, I'm talking everything.  All of my bedroom furniture has either been given to me or reclaimed.  My daughter's room the dresser, bookshelf, nightstand, everything all "heirlooms" or thrift store finds.  The living room the tv stand is a dresser from the 60's.  I can go on and on.  I have to say when friends and family come over it is always these items that are noticed.  Not because they are old, but because they bring the personality to the rooms.
So anyway, much like my house is fully eclectic so am I.  My professional experience is eclectic everything from working at a non-profit to marketing, a little retail thrown in to keep things interesting.  But my true passion is art.  I have been an artist my whole life.  My love is mixed media, much like me, I don't have to be  tided down to one medium, I can use them all.  So, about 2 years ago I decided to form a photography company.  Which has been going great.  I have been steadily growing my client base and have been enjoying it very much.  But as much as I love photography, I kept feeling incomplete with my art.  Until one day while watching a marathon of storage wars (I am totally addicted), it hits me, I miss being messy!  I miss putting paint down and completing a piece of art.

So I starting thinking what can I do.........days go by...........not sleeping too much........ just thinking...........then I've got it.  Reclaiming furniture.

I go to my husband (we have been married for 11 years and together much longer then that, so the man knows me well.  He always has the same answer for me when I have come up with the next best amazing hair brained idea.)  So I am like "you know what I was thinking"  all my ideas start out this way.  He always says back to me "no what were your thinking".  I told him my whole idea with Vava's and I was half expecting him to be like "ok honey"  what ever you want attitude with rolled eyes.  But low and behold he liked it!  I mean he really liked it!  With him on board, I would start Vava's Vintage and go for it.  So since I am just starting out I thought I would blog my  experience.  From what market I will be at during the summer, to hopefully the grand opening of my store.  I am excited for the adventure that is about to begin!  Vava's Vintage where vintage meets va va voom!
